A Spiritual Oasis

A Spiritual Oasis

Cheers was an amazing American sitcom that was on television from 1982 to 1993. The show was about a bar, called Cheers, where a group of locals met to drink and hang out. It was the kind of bar where, “Everybody knows your name.”

There are wonder places like this in every city and town. There are also unique places and spaces which hold a “beautiful spirit”. Places that go beyond knowing your name. More like places which clearly understand your soul and being.  Here are some of my favourite spaces and places which I LOVE!

Very slow, verrrrrrrry slowwwww

Very slow, verrrrrrrry slowwwww

Naturally, I’m already on a slower speed than the rest of the world. In truth, this annoys people who know me very well. I have a tendency to get lost in the moments. I putter, think, wait, watch, listen, contemplate, and daydream, a lot. You remember, the kid the teacher always told to stop daydreaming. As a student, I preferred to sit next to the classroom window. Frequently, I gazed outward, wondering, thinking, pondering, and then alerted to stop daydreaming. I wasn’t daydreaming, I was creating!  Pink Floyd The Wall, “Hey! Teachers! Leave them kids alone!”

Focused and Centred

Focused and Centred
As a young girl, I danced classical ballet. I loved everything about ballet. I loved the discipline, the music, the control of my body, and especially the performances.
However, as I got older, my ballet teachers demanded more focus and control from me and stressed to be centered. In my mind, I wanted to be a teacher. In my heart, I wanted to be a ballet dancer. In my best friend’s car, I wanted a Mama Burger at A&W with fries and a root beer.  So… In High School, I slowed down my ballet dancing to the point of no return.
But, the best part of ballet was the training to be Focused and Centred.

A Room of Her Own

A Room of Her Own

One night, I was teaching a three-hour online class in the basement. I put a note on the basement garage door, “Class in Session – Enter from Upstairs!” I put a note on the upstairs door which leads to the basement, “Class in Session – Do Not Enter!”
On that night, family members and their friends entered at both points.
I said, “Didn’t you see the signs?”
The response was simply a smile. I think they enjoyed disturbing me because it was fun for them.

Cent’Anni!

Cent’Anni!

This week a momentous event is going to happen in my life. It has been in the making since I was 14 years old. It has taken me 44 years to get to this point. I have been anticipating this event for years. YEARS! It’s not life changing, but it’s a major historical marker in my life. Can you guess what it is? I’ll give you a hint… It’s very personal, sometimes private, and a little secretive.

Ah… Appreciation

Ah… Appreciation

When I go to the opera with my mother, sometimes there is a PAUSE in the performance. This is not an intermission to leave your seat and get a drink or use the washroom. This is simply a pause in the performance. When the pause is announced, my mother looks at me with a wink in her eye and says, “Now we pause, so relax and enjoy this moment.” I giggle a bit. The Pause in the performance usually lasts about 5 minutes, and then the show continues.
I thoroughly enjoy the 5 minute pause, as it gives me a moment to just relax and observe.

You Know YOU!

You Know YOU!

Many people have stated that along their career paths, others have tried to discourage them. Telling them they are not good enough, not great enough and will never make it. So many people have been wrong as success is truly within YOU. I’m glad I didn’t listen to that nasty, horrible, career destroying person. I listened to me and the encouragement from other professionals. Listen to you! You know what’s best for you! You know YOU!!!

Participate in Something

Participate in Something

Talk about excitement, when I heard we were doing the fitness test in gym class, I nearly lost my mind. I’m not a competitive person with anyone else except for myself. Every year I tried my best to earn the Award of Excellence. I wanted it so badly. I wanted to be the fittest I could be. Problem was I just couldn’t get through the Flexed Arm Hangs test.

Sh*ve It Up Your…

Sh*ve It Up Your…

So you think I’m going to take this sitting down? Do you think I’m going to just wait around for things to change? Think again Buddy, this horse has left the barn! It’s my RODEO!
Instead of complaining about everything, GET OFF YOUR… AND DO SOMETHING USEFUL!
The key word here is “useful”.  To be useful is to be responsible for yourself and responsible for the world.
Get off your… and do something to help someone.  There is so much need out there. Get useful and then you will feel better about everything.

Confessions of Candy Lovers

Confessions of Candy Lovers

Apparently, I touched upon a secretive subject shared by many people.
I received emails, private messages, texts, and comments on all the social media platforms I use. Some declarations were, “I love candy too! I’m also Candy Girl. I’m a mid-day Candy Guy. I love Rock Candy, fudge, and taffy. Do you remember the $1,000,000 chocolate bar? I’m a Swedish berry freak! Keep the secret; I only eat candy after midnight.”

Quietly, Sit & Stare

Quietly, Sit & Stare

Being bored is not such a bad thing. When children are bored they have a tendency to quickly become imaginative. Perhaps adults don’t have the same impulses for a flourishing imagination. Busy life and problems come into play every day. Actual freedom and playtime never really exists unless you go on a planned vacation.

If we could just channel our childhood spirits and imaginations, perhaps we could then be our best creative selves.

Questioning the past? No way, go forward!

Questioning the past? No way, go forward!

Suddenly, my running buddy stopped running, so I stopped too. That’s when these words were spoken to me, “Are we going to spend the next hour listening to you talk about the past? All that didn’t happen? All that stuff you can’t change? All those couldn’t, shouldn’t, wouldn’t and didn’ts? If that’s the case you’re own your own!”
I said, “For real?”
“YA! FOR REAL!” was yelled at me.
Then it got really…
