It’s FREE!

It’s FREE!

On the day that I can take $10 off my grocery bill, feels like a really big victory for me. There was a FREE in that freedom. But… did you know there are tons of things which are also free? Things that people seldom appreciate and observe. Usually when you can no longer have them, then you realize the free in so many wonderful things.  Young people! Appreciate the real life frees all around you!

Instinctively Spring – And lessons in reading the world

Instinctively Spring – And lessons in reading the world
Forget the calendar. Seriously, it gives you a false sense of seasonal security. The calendar is an excellent tool for organizing your time, days, events, and years. However, I find it’s not an accurate tool for understanding the changing seasons.
The calendar states this year of 2023, in the northern hemisphere, spring will start on March 20 and end on June 21. In my world, spring begins in February. At this time, I can clearly state, on February 6, 2023, spring began in Montreal, Canada. Remember, this is in my world.

My Kind of Sexy

My Kind of Sexy

As a tween, an almost adolescent, I didn’t really understand what sexy was. All I knew was that Elvis Presley made me feel differently. For some reason, I wanted to kiss him and my eyes were glued to his body when he performed. Once I fully understood what sexy was, Elvis was gone, never to return. Left to seek out other sexy avenues I stumbled upon, David Cassidy, John Travolta, Tony Defranco, Davy Jones, and the super cute guy down my street.

Coloured Cauliflower

Coloured Cauliflower
One of our yearly autumn outings is to find COLOURED CAULIFLOWER.
You might be wondering if we are looking for a specific vegetable. Nope! Are we looking for a flower? Nope! We are in search of a spectacular and particular display of fall foliage.
Many conditions need to be in place for this to happen. Firstly, the leaves need to be at the height of their foliage coloration. The sun must be shining brightly with hardly any fallen leaves on the ground. It might take a few road trips, but we are hoping to capture it.

Gotta Get a Green Thumb

Gotta Get a Green Thumb

Gladys Presley gave her son Elvis a guitar at a very young age. He was born with music in his blood. At first his famous dance moves were not purposely part of his stage act. The music he was creating made his body move in those very interesting ways. Actually, he found it hard to control his body when he was performing. The music controlled him. Without a doubt, he had it!  Naturally given talent!

People as Landscapes

People as Landscapes
Could you be the denseness of a valley, between two mountains? This humid flora with mysterious vegetation and sounds which inhabits a variety of creatures. Perhaps this is a sexy environment with shadows and breaks of light. Scary snapping twigs along the damp floor, with serenading songs from the wild birds. I can think of a few people who might fit this amorous description.
Who is your Iceberg, Mountain, Valley, Rock, Ocean, Desert, or Lake?

It’s Flowing

It’s Flowing
With the end of the cross-country ski season is the beginning of the Maple Syrup Season! Oh, the wonderful sap is flowing out of the maple trees. Have I mentioned how much I LOVE maple syrup? I love it in all forms such as: cookies, candies, lollipops, ice cream, pure syrup, glazes, cakes, pies, etc. My absolute favourite form is hot maple syrup poured on snow. It’s poured in a straight line on the snow. Then with a wooden popsicle stick, it’s rolled into a soft chunk of maple candy. It’s the best!!!! I usually get this on the last days of my cross-country ski season.
It’s so delish! Actually, anything with maple syrup on it is delish.  Anything???  Yes, anything!!!!

Nature Knows

Nature Knows

Over many years, nature lessons have been passed down to me. The angle of the sun, the birds, animal behavior, trees and plant changes are much better predictors of seasons than the calendar.
The calendar states that on Saturday, March 20th, 2021 spring will begin. That is the official date. However, spring has already begun for me on February 4th, 2021. The birds told me so. I also went to check the buds on my Magnolia tree. The buds are swelling, another indicator spring has arrived. Next confirmation, no matter how cold it is outside, the sun is melting snow on my roof – done! Spring has sprung!

X-Ski Etiquette

X-Ski Etiquette

I am a cross country skiing lover! Seriously, it’s my most favourite winter sport. I have been doing it since my early 20’s. The sport has everything I need, cardio exercise, arm, leg and abs workouts, fresh air, and gliding speed. It’s also very inexpensive and requires little advance planning. Sort of all the same reasons I like running too.
The only major problem with this activity is the length of season. Cross country skiing requires natural snow. Unlike downhill skiing, where artificial snow can be made to lengthen the ski season, natural snow is needed for cross country skiing.

Questioning the past? No way, go forward!

Questioning the past? No way, go forward!

Suddenly, my running buddy stopped running, so I stopped too. That’s when these words were spoken to me, “Are we going to spend the next hour listening to you talk about the past? All that didn’t happen? All that stuff you can’t change? All those couldn’t, shouldn’t, wouldn’t and didn’ts? If that’s the case you’re own your own!”
I said, “For real?”
“YA! FOR REAL!” was yelled at me.
Then it got really…

Being Perfectly Impurfect

Being Perfectly Impurfect

A very long time ago I made a bold decision to reduce some of the high expectations “I” had created in my life. Not all, just some to ease the stress. Some of the nonsense stuff that’s useless and irritating. This idea started when someone asked me how to spell my name. My given name is Suzanne. I have been called, Suzanne, Suzie, Sue, Suz, Susan, Susanna, Suzette, Suzannie, Susonna, Su, and even Steve. The list is very long.

A Microscopic Moment

A Microscopic Moment

There is so much to see in the garden at any time of year. Actually, there is so much to see in anything, if you really take the time to look. When I finally get down to spending a few hours in the garden, I take a break from life as a human. I try to think of myself as a creature from the land. I disconnect my phone and my attachment to any technology. I escape into the micro damp soil.
