The Power of the Word NO!
Movements don’t happen when the Waters are Smooth
I said, “Put your hand down and away from my face. My eyes can guide me quite well.”
He looked at me with astonishment when I said, “You would’ve never done that to a man, would you?” Another woman glared at him.
Imagine if he had done that same behaviour to man? A fight would have broken out.
A Room of Her Own
One night, I was teaching a three-hour online class in the basement. I put a note on the basement garage door, “Class in Session – Enter from Upstairs!” I put a note on the upstairs door which leads to the basement, “Class in Session – Do Not Enter!”
On that night, family members and their friends entered at both points.
I said, “Didn’t you see the signs?”
The response was simply a smile. I think they enjoyed disturbing me because it was fun for them.
Life as a Bicycle
It was the summer of 1973 when I attached a small radio to the handlebars of my green banana seat bike. Not only did I have freedom of mobility, I also had easy access to, GREAT music.
Not much mattered to me at that time. I was free and able to ride my bike and listen to new, fabulous music. I wasn’t far from my home when I heard Steely Dan’s Reelin’ in the Years. For me, that was the song of the summer. I heard it and I had to stop riding to listen.
Cent’Anni!
This week a momentous event is going to happen in my life. It has been in the making since I was 14 years old. It has taken me 44 years to get to this point. I have been anticipating this event for years. YEARS! It’s not life changing, but it’s a major historical marker in my life. Can you guess what it is? I’ll give you a hint… It’s very personal, sometimes private, and a little secretive.
Potty Mouth
It’s true. I swear on occasion. Actually, that’s not entirely true. I swear often. Hmmmm, maybe I can be more honest. I F&$!*Kin swear all the time!I have been told I have a “Potty Mouth”. I’ve heard other charming expressions such as: gutter mouth, dirty mouth, toilet mouth, foul mouthed and my favourite, muck-spout. I enjoy hearing that I “swear like a trooper” or I “swear like a sailor”!
The 2021 Spring Series – Pumping Up Positivity – Part Two – So Talented!
Welcome to The 2021 Spring Series – Pumping Up Positivity – Part Two – So Talented!
In Part Two I introduce: Meredith Fine, Talent Agent helping make dreams come true for 34 years, who’s funny, outgoing and loyal … and the keeper of many secrets & Sy Prevost, Mount Royal based POP ART painter and sculptor, also creative producer and artistic director in television, cinema and stage for the past 30 years.
Everyone is living a very different life, especially now. Everyone has a different perspective and interesting tools for living in the positive. I asked an eclectic group of people to answer a questionnaire based on their “Positive Perspectives”.
Their responses are about living through challenging times with an encouraging positive perspective.
Enjoy, Living in the Now!
You Are Fabulous!
You are fabulous! You are amazing! You are fantastic! You are wonderful! You are all
these things at something you do. Everyone is fabulously talented at something.
Everyone has the ability to be really good at doing something. Think about it. What are
you fabulous at? Oh…By the way, only you need to think you are fabulous at that
thing you do. Only you need to please yourself.
Just Try Your Best
The best we can do is simply do our very best. Not perfection, just our best.
I might never be a good cook. As long as I try my best, I can accept this reality. I can assure you the table will be set really nicely with candles, matching napkins in napkin rings, beautiful glassware and gorgeous plates. Perhaps with a stunning floral center piece. The meal… that’s a different story. You will know that I tried my best!
Really!!! What’s wrong with complaining?
Ok, ok, no one wants to listen to someone who constantly complains about everything.
You’ve got to pick and choose what needs to be complained about.
But, not complaining at all? Means you might just be too complacent?
Imagine if women never complained about inequality? Imagine if teachers never complained about low pay wages? Imagine if doctors did not complain about the lack of safety materials? Imagine a world without complaining, not much would get done.
There’s something to be said about Experience
Perhaps the more you know how to do something; the more reliable you are at doing it.
I suppose I must continue to run up the hill at a controlled pace in order to get to the very top without running out of breath. I will need to do this often enough to be able to maintain a successful pace too. I will continue to teach those newbies on the foothills to pace before venturing up, for investing in their success will help share the succession of the hill.
Bill 21: Numbers turned upside down
Published! Letter to the Editor in The Suburban Newspaper.
— Bottom line, Miss Macdonald was the most fantastic, innovative, friendly, wonderful, amazing, informative teacher. And the fact that she wore a big catholic cross around her neck each day she taught us, made no fricken difference to anyone in the classroom. So, I really don’t know what the big deal is now! Seriously 45 years later!! Bill 21 is a waste of everyone’s time and money!
Happy Day!
Today, families are not strictly Mother and Father created. There are many families which have two Mother’s and/or two Fathers. Some families may have one Mother or one Father. Some families don’t have Fathers or Mothers. Families can no longer be defined as simply a Mother and Father with children. Our society is too far expanded as all families are unique, not gender based. How’s about your professional family, or your gym family, or your summer camp family, or your choir family, or simply your friend’s family? Mother’s Day and Father’s Day needs to expand with society and be more diverse!
Z, Tra La La La!
I remember screaming this cheer for everyone’s name and our team name. It was so exciting and invigorating. You can adapt this cheer with anyone’s name, team name, or anything providing it’s long enough. If the first name is short, add the last name or a nickname always works. EVERYTHING DESERVES A CHEER!
Experience
Next to me at the base of the hill was a much younger girl. She had music blaring in her ears as she ran on the tips of her toes. We both needed to stop at the base as there was a red stop light. Once the light turned green, it was as though we were racing to get to the top. She bolted out of the gate determined to beat me. I had the one thing she didn’t have, experience. Although, she had the one thing I didn’t have, youth.
It’s Your Rodeo
That’s when he simply said, “It’s your rodeo…own it! Make it yours. You decide how you want it done. You’re the expert. You make the calls. This isn’t your first rodeo. Put on your big boy boots, cowboy hat and get into the ring!” I thought, yaaaa, he’s right! …It is my rodeo. That’s right, Sue…IT’S MY RODEO! IT’S MY FRICKEN RODEO!!!!!
It’s So Good to Give

Praise it Forward
Praise goes a long way! Making a positive difference in other people’s lives will empower them and make you feel wonderful, too. Be generous with praise as that positivity will breed more joy in the world.
The bank teller told me the bank offered her a promotion! She was also given a “Family Night-Out Prize”. This prize includes a free dinner and movie for four and 2 extra vacation days. She was ecstatic. She was also promoted to second level teller service. WOW!
